Purpose statement

Some examples of how the University of Melbourne - Melbourne Theatre Company pursued its charitable purposes in the last financial year are as follows: (1) 11-12 world class main season productions per year, affording Victorians the opportunity to see new Australian works, as well as premium International work. (2) Pilot season of Neon Festival of Melbourne's Independent Theatre - The festival supports Melbourne artists to develop their practice further, whilst providing a level of exposure to new audiences and opportunities. Free forums and workshops provided access to industry information and created a platform for discussion about best practice. (3) Women Directors program - The program provided workshops, mentoring and networking opportunities for female directors. Thirteen participants were selected for the inaugural year-long program. (4) Family Shows - Two family shows were produced. The first focussed on youth audiences as part of our education program. The Book of Everything was aimed at providing a theatre experience for young families. This is the first time that MTC has specifically programmed a family show aimed at this audience. (5) Summer Workshops - Summer workshops were provided to VCE Drama/Theatre students.
