Purpose statement
The Club s core activities remain the provision of Surf Life Saving (SLS) and other Emergency Services at Era Beach and along the entire coastline of the Royal National Park. Ensure that members meet Surf Life Saving Australia standards and that services are delivered by qualified and proficient volunteers. Promote and conduct inclusive training courses, diverse development activities along with competency assessments. Pro-actively maintain a strong community connection, support local Landcare and Fire Guard activities, along with the wellbeing of Park visitors. A warm summer saw an increase in beach goers and bush walkers transiting Era. The season opened with our participation in the nationwide Gotcha For Life 24 Hour Row, closely followed by the hosting of NSW Waratahs and Southern Districts Rugby teams pre season camps. Coming into its third year the Garie Road remained closed, necessitating a major helicopter lift to bring in supplies and take rubbish out. This was broadened to include shack holders at Era, Little Garie and Burning Palms, which among other things saw two tons of solar batteries and 20 square meters of rubbish removed. Membership eased to 203 and remains below our pre COVID peak of 256, a situation compounded by the continued closure of the Garie Road. Rescues, First Aid and Preventative Actions were at comparable levels to the previous year. In January 2024, our Saturday patrol team were the first responders to a crash landing at Garie Beach of a light plane carrying three passengers. Training courses were well attended resulting in 9 Bronze Medallions, 3 Advanced Resuscitation , 6 IRB Crewmen and other awards. Despite a decline in Nipper numbers, fortnightly activities were strongly supported, so to was the Skills Day conducted at Kurnell, which included nippers from Burning Palms. A District Carnival was conducted at Era, the format of which was expanded to include Junior and Senior events. A number of members represented the Club at local, state and national championship carnivals. The Under 19 Men s Boat Crew performed well all season and won the Sydney Branch Champions. Thanks to the passion of our Management Committee, the commitment of members and support of sponsors the past year was highly successful. The Club is well placed to address the challenges of the 2024-25 season and in doing so will continue to fulfil community and Association expectations for the preserve life and reduction of aquatic injuries.
