Purpose statement
Slim Dusty Centre is a unique community project with National Significance rarely available regionally. It is celebrated as of major cultural benefit to Slim's home town Kempsey. As a living museum embracing Australian culture, it will preserve, entertain and educate visitors about the changing face of Australian culture through the eyes and lyrics of an Australian Icon. The Slim Dusty Centre opened in November 2015. The Slim Dusty Centre is positioned to generate a major economic and social boost to the Mid North Coast and NSW Tourism industries, and the businesses and community organisations linked to this sector. In its first year of operation it consistently delivered socio-economic benefits to the community at large and it proved itself as a critical component for continuing visitor interest in the Kempsey Shire post highway upgrade. The Centre's contribution to regional outputs assists in the retention and growth of jobs, and is a lifeline to significantly boost the well being of the community. Most importantly, the Charitable status of the Trust has been vital in aiding particular fundraising initiatives, such as; The Foundation Donors' program, Fundraising Events, Memorabilia Donations and successful application for various Government Grants. The principal activities for the year 2023/2024 have been ongoing fundraising for the Slim Dusty Museum and the transfer of the Slim Dusty Centre Museum building, including the fit out, to the Kempsey Shire Council. The handover took place on 15/12/2023. The Company will continue to advise the Kempsey Shire Council on exhibitions and all matters relating to Slim Dusty s music & culture in the region including education and management of intellectual property as well as fundraising to assist in financing new exhibitions and curatorial services.
