Purpose statement
The Filipino Language School of Canberra (FLSC) continued its mission of preserving and promoting Filipino language and culture by holding weekly language classes at the Harmony Room, Theo Notaras Multicultural Centre. These Sunday sessions, conducted during school terms, provided children with structured learning opportunities to develop their Filipino language skills. Through interactive lessons and cultural activities, FLSC fostered a strong connection to heritage, ensuring the next generation embraces their linguistic and cultural identity.

President s Report, Filipino Language School of Canberra (FLSC) Year 2023 The past year has been challenging yet a successful year for our organisation. We saw new students and volunteers join our ranks. The continuing impact of COVID and the wavering interest in sending their children to Sunday language school classes were still manifesting. The number of students attending the class were fluctuating. Nevertheless, we had a total of ten (10) enrolees for the year, conducted 31 two-hour sessions and participated in various community events. We continue to implement our classes in two parts: first part is the language lessons, and the second part is the cultural assimilation by the students. The blending of the two topics proved to be effective with children, not only increasing their interest in learning the language but also in the Filipino culture or their Filipino heritage thus contributing to the accomplishment of the school mission. The enthusiasm and sense of volunteerism from the members of the Executive Committee (EXECOM) throughout the year were commendable. The school conducted the following annual activities: Harmony Day, 02 April 2023 at Weston Park, Yarralumla ACT Fiesta ng Bayan, 17 September 2023 at Function Room, Theo Notaras Multicultural Centre, Canberra ACT Achievement Day & Christmas Party, 10 December 2023 at Harmony Room, Theo Notaras Multicultural Centre, Canberra ACT. Our students, teachers and EXECOM members participated in various community events in Canberra ACT. FLSC participation through song and dance numbers have awed and garnered praises from the audiences. We showcased the Filipino culture in the following events: 2023 National Multicultural Festival, 17-19 Feb 23 at various locations ACT ACT Community Language Schools National Open Day 2023, 20 May 23 at Albert Hall, Yarralumla ACT 125th Philippine Independence Day Celebrations, 24 June 2023 at Corinna Room, Southern Cross Club, Phillip ACT Filipino Communities Council of Australia Inc (FILCCA) 16th National Conference, 14 Oct 2023 at Ann Harding Conference Centre, University of Canberra, Bruce ACT ACTCLSA Annual Dinner, 18 November 2023 at Ruby Chinese Restaurant, Dickson ACT Pasko sa Canberra 2023, 03 December 2023 at Philippine Embassy Grounds, Yarralumla ACT. The school conducted its operations with funding support from grants and donations. Our financial health is reflected in its 2023 financial statement.
